53two invites aspiring creatives from across Greater Manchester to take part in BreakThrough— a week-long, hands-on programme designed to provide practical experience, mentorship, and a platform for those who are ready to take their first steps into a career in the arts.

Focused particularly on those from underserved or arts-deprived areas, this free programme is a unique opportunity to gain real-world insight into a chosen creative discipline, build connections, and showcase your potential to industry professionals across the North West.

Location: 53two, Manchester, M3 4LP

Eligibility: Open to residents of Greater Manchester aged 18+ who are looking to start a career in the arts but have faced barriers to access. 

Disciplines Available
Participants can apply to work in one of the following areas:
- Writing
- Directing
- Stage Management
- Lighting Design
- Sound Design
- Marketing
- Production

Each discipline will host three participants, working closely with an experienced mentor in their field.

 

What to Expect
Over the course of the week, participants will:
- Work side-by-side with a professional mentor in their chosen discipline
- Take part in tailored workshops, Q&As, and creative exercises
- Shadow 53two staff and gain practical experience working Front of House on a live evening show
- Collaborate with other participants and mentors
- Prepare a filmed ‘cover letter’ to potential employers, showcasing their voice, passion, and ambitions
- Present their work in a daytime Showcase Event to invited industry professionals from across the North West

- Travel and lunch expenses will be covered up to £15
- Access needs will be met — we encourage applicants to share how we can best support them
